Consider a 25 cm long soil column in which a cation exchange complex with a capacity of 12 meq/dm³ bulk soil in equilibrium with a 1 mM  NaCl and 0.2 mM KCl solution. The column is flushed for 75 d with a 0.6 mM CaCl2 solution.

A constant flux of 1 cm is applied on a column with a fixed pressure head of 0 cm at the bottom initially in gravitational equilibrium with the fixed pressure head at the bottom.
